Pop, Pop, Pop! Colourpop!

Raised in the City of Angels (yes, I took that from the website), Colourpop has been a booming sensation across the US and the beauty industry!

I am a long time supporter of Colourpop and all of its products. In reality, and to be totally candid, most of its products are unbelievably amazing at such an affordable price. I’ve compared its products to the millions of lipsticks, mascaras, highlighters, so on and so forth that I own, and it does take the cake! As with everything, there are pros and cons to this product line, but most of its products are total thumbs up!

Lets start with the lipsticks. So, just to give you the 411, Colourpop has a variety of lipstick types: the famous Lippie Stix, the Lippie Pencil, Ultra Glossy Lip, Ultra Satin Lip, Ultra Blotted Lip, Ultra Metallic Lip (which I am so excited about,) and lastly, the most famous of them all, the Ultra Matte Lip. In this review, I’ll cover the Lippie Stix and the Ultra Matte Lip since they tend to be the products that are most asked about. The Ultra Matte Lip collection is fantastic if you’re looking for something that will last all day – literally. all. day. And they go for only 6 bucks a piece! Most of the Ultra Matte Lip products that I have apply perfectly, and stay on forever. There are so many different shades of this lip product line, from light peach all the way down to blue, purple and even green! (I bought all the random colors). The only downside to these is that they sometimes don’t rub off completely after you’ve used makeup remover. Also, some of the lipsticks get this odd scent if they haven’t been used for a few months. Regardless, I would definitely recommend you try it out. Everyone’s experience is different. Also… $6. Come on, people.

As for the Lippie Stix, they have a smoother finish when you apply them. They’re soft and have lovely colors. I love the light packaging;  fits perfectly between my fingers. You have to reapply it from time to time throughout the day, but they don’t smell if you haven’t used them for a while. My favorites are Baewatch or Tootsi. I’m more into fall, soft, pastel and light colors. Love nudes. No, not those kinds of nudes.

A brief overview of other products: Have never had to complain about eyeshadows; they are SUPER pigmented and go on like a charm. Soft, powdery feel but stay on for a long time. And the highlighters… I cannot go out without putting on a highlighter. I literally want to shine when the sun hits my face. That’s how bad it is. And Colourpop makes it WORK, honey! Powdery, soft touch, the highlighters are amazing and come in different shades. I suggest you check them out if you already haven’t.

Anywho! Colourpop ships to your house – there is no store where you can buy the product, and Sephora doesn’t carry it. Neither do other stores. Hopefully there will be a Colourpop shop near you! I’m surely waiting for one. It’s products are cost effective and super quality. So, if you’re looking for a low cost, cute,  fun and beautiful collection, check out Colourpop!

KIKO?

During my frequent trips to Europe, I happened upon a fun cosmetics store called KIKO. It originated in Italy and has boomed ever since around the globe. I walked into the first KIKO store in Vienna, where I was greeted with friendly smiles and a pleasant, fragrant scent. As I searched around the shop, I found lipsticks of various sizes and styles, foundation for many skin types, mascara with a tiny circular ball at the end of its applicator (meant to increase the volume of your lashes) and nail products. What surprised me the most about KIKO is the cost effectiveness of its products. Going to cosmetics stores in New York City, excluding stores like E.L.F., you’re going to get caught between wanting a really amazing, rich product and paying an arm and a leg for it. We ALL know what we’re getting ourselves into once we make it our goal to replenish our makeup collections. And ladies, if you’re looking for a great brand with excellent products, KIKO is the way to go. (According to my recent research, KIKO stores have also opened in certain locations within the United States. So, shop away!)

As for the quality of the products (which I did mention earlier was excellent), I do mean this in comparison with high end products from stores such as ULTA and Sephora. KIKO is innovative and constantly changing its ideas and product line. For a tiny store that has made an impact on the cosmetics industry, I say why not take a chance! Lipsticks by KIKO come in different packaging. If you read my previous blog post about Birchbox’s packaging, you’d know that packaging is really important to me (and in my opinion, to many of the makeup buying population.) Oh! And I forgot to mention that KIKO also sells skin care products that are simply DIVINE. I’ve used many of their skin care products and I have super sensitive skin. So, thanks for that, KIKO!

As for the last part of my blog post, I’ll leave you with this best selling KIKO eyeshadow… don’t you just love its design? I thought it looked like a fingerprint, which is awesome because, in retrospect, it almost is unique to YOU when you put it on! See It Here!

Okey dokey! It’s time for lunch. And I am out!

The Way To A Girl’s Heart Is Through The Packaging

Every month, I patiently await the arrival of the next Birchbox box. The anticipation of what samples I will receive is what makes me swoon. Admittedly, I am obsessed with the beauty industry. Finding out about the latest beauty trends, products and colors is what feeds my anticipation. But what about the packaging of the products? I’ve thought about this for some time, and realized that the way a product is presented to the world affects our perception of how “good” or “bad” the product may be.

My Birchbox box arrives, and it is absolutely gorgeous. It is covered in a beautiful cluster flower pattern, with the word BIRCHBOX written in its center, enveloped in a shiny gold rectangle. I open the box to find luxury samples of the most recent beauty products in the industry. But I always find myself going back to the packaging. I will admit that I collect the Birchbox boxes after I have emptied their contents. I have them all stacked in my bedroom, and admire their lovely packaging from time to time. It adds a subtle beauty to the decor in my bedroom, which brought me to question this idea: does packaging mean more than the product itself?

In my world, the answer is “yes”. We as humans are drawn to beautiful, colorful, shiny things. It’s simply the honest truth. I’ve also considered the fact that the public relations concepts used by Birchbox are insanely well-done. One might consider that without the packaging, the products may not be as appealing. And with that, I applaud this beauty bombshell of a company!

Anywho, my midnight snack awaits me!
